Notice of changes to CS:GO Game Server Operation

Ido Magal

Notice of changes to CS:GO Game Server Operation

CS:GO dedicated servers will soon require Steam Game Server Login Tokens (GSLTs). This is the existing system that TF2 uses for Favorites migration.

This transition will happen in three stages:

§  Stage 1 [NOW] : The GSLT creation utility goes live: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers. Please test the interface and report back any issues in creating accounts. Note that TF2 server operators can now use this form to create GSLTs for TF2 (AppId 440).

§  Stage 2: An update to CS:GO's dedicated server will include the sv_setsteamaccount convar that allows you to log in with your GSLT. In this stage it will still be possible to run a dedicated server without a GSLT. Anonymous login will happen automatically if no game server login token is specified. Please report back any issues with logging in using the game server login token or otherwise.

§  Stage 3: Anonymous logins will be disabled in CS:GO. Please report back any issues.

Please ask questions in this thread.

Cheers.

Is this why the CSGO GC is borked?

I see the first requirement is:
"Your Steam account must not be community banned or locked"

Is this just to generate the token, or if this occurs will the tokens become invalid while that ban/lock is in place?

Why is this to be required? This will greatly inconvenience or put out of business GSPs and people who run more than 50 servers. Note that the 50-server limit is Steam-wide, not specific to CS:GO.

Failed to create account: 24 (non-VOIP numbers are required to create persistent gameserver accounts)

So people need to have landlines to run servers now?

What specifically happens if you don't log into an account after stage three? No players can join at all? No GC connection (thus no items)? or just delisted from the master server?

Due to the new phone number restriction on the API, I am unable to register an account. If it just blocks from listing on the master server, that's fine since I only run the server for testing. Otherwise, I apparently cannot use my actual primary phone number for Steam.

Absurd Minds, if you have a phone on your account (steamguard mobile auth for example) it uses that.

For anyone asking what this does:

This is what it does for TF2:

  • Added the server command "sv_setsteamaccount" for logging in with a persistent game server account using a login token. Login tokens may be acquired via the IGameServersService/CreateAccount web API. Using a login token is not required to run a game server, but allows Steam users to continue to access your game server from their favorites list if your game server changes IP in the future.

Yet another brilliantly thought out update from Valve...

So people need to have landlines to run servers now?

Cheers.

Not quite. In TF2 it gives you an anonymous login if you don't set a token. They will be removing anonymous login so you'll NEED a token

Interesting... but evidently not the same for CS:GO because they've said anonymous logins will be disabled?

This is what happens when you have plugins like Weapon Paints and you don't remove them when Valve asks. Now everyone needs to link their Steam's with their servers, so Valve can more easily ban offenders.

Absurd Minds, if you have a phone on your account (steamguard mobile auth for example) it uses that.
