Host Error new entity == max edicts bug

Gilles
Hey, anybody having the same issues with this bug?

I've recently got back working on writing a plugin and for testing purposes I run a DS on my machine.

But I get randomly kicked when I rejoin my own server (or sometimes 10 seconds after), without any real kick message. However in my console (game not server) I get this message:

Host_Error: CL_ReadPreserveEnt: u.m_nNewEntity == MAX_EDICTS

I'ts really annoying and requires me to restart the server before I'm able to reconnect to it.

I've tried reinstalling the whole DS, so I'ts a clean build with no addons/plugins. And reinstalled my own game.

Also tested with a small plugin that tells how many edicts are currently in the table, and it's at most 700 edicts (which is under the 4096 limit).

I've googled but I couldn't find anything useful, except some recent TF2 patch that has been bothering players in that game, but nothing for CSGO.

Last time (about a month ago) when I was working on things everything went well and never had an issue. Now I got some free time I wanted to pickup where I left and I'm getting this random error.

If anybody could point me on the right track, thanks in advance,

Gilles Van Vlasselaer

Yes, I have been experiencing this since the Gloves update came out. Just about every community server I join, including my own, I get booted at least once per session with this error in the console. I know a few other friends who are having this same issue. I emailed the devs about it a few days after the Gloves update came out. I believe I linked them the Allied Mods thread in regards to TF2 having this issue as well, and it being patched. Hopefully they can square it away soon because it's rather annoying.

That has no effect. Rates are all set appropriately. Still happens. Why would client side rates have anything to do with max edicts when edicts are in direct relation to entities rendered/being used at any given time?

Re: Host Error new entity == max edicts bug

Michael Loveless
Still irrelevant. Why would rates, server or client side, have anything to do with exceeding max edicts when edicts are related to entities? Here is Valve's developer page on Entity Limits and where max_edicts comes into play, so you can understand what we're discussing: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Entity_limit

Rates don't have anything to do with it. If server/client rates were the problem, the problem would have existed well before the update in question. TF2 made an update not too long ago that caused this issue as well, and their dev team was able to resolve it the following update. There should be no reason why the CS:GO devs can't do the same.

Re: Host Error new entity == max edicts bug

I have no idea. I was just pointing out that the other person clearly meant server rates, not client rates. I've never seen this problem, but I figured I could at least clarify an obvious misunderstanding where I saw it. I apologize if that was unwanted.

What was the original problem here and what happened on TF2? Edicts
behave differently in both games. As a mapper, you have less edicts to
use in CSGO than you have for TF2.

I meant the server rates. Used the following commands, and the bug simply disappeared.
sv_minrate 198000
sv_mincmdrate 128
sv_minupdaterate 128

Simply disappeared? 2 things that have nothing to do with each other magically resolved the problem? Thanks for your solutions, grand wizard.

Yup, still dealing with it almost every custom map I play on a variety of server types. TF2 devs were able to deal with this in no time just a couple months ago.

Re: Host Error new entity == max edicts bug

Michael Loveless
Can confirm. Still happening on a daily basis on servers with custom maps.

This problem was happening in TF2 in early November. John Schoenick replied to the HLDS mailing list saying "I've narrowed this down to an old typo in the engine that was exacerbated by recent changes". On 11/18/2016, John made a post to the HLDS mailing list with an Optional TF2 update which included a fix for this issue. Since that update, I have yet to experience this issue once.

I can't imagine why the CS:GO devs are leaving this issue for so long when it's been made apparent by another Valve dev that it's a relatively simple fix. Yet they can pump out more weapon cases and a useless new map filled with problems before they can resolve simple outstanding issues that cause players to constantly be disconnected from games.

If you have found a solution, or a likely culprit of the problem, why not just share it?

It happens on both Sourcemod and Vanilla setups, and it has also been explained by a Valve TF2 developer as an engine related bug, one in which the TF2 team had a fix for within a week of this bug being reported to them. We've been reporting it here and any official outlet Valve/CS:GO devs have for going into 5 months now, they just don't give a damn.

Well,
I am not actually sure about what made the problems disappear. So, I need to inspect a problematic server so that I can find the exact solution.
